On the road to Austin

Not far south of Dallas is the very surprising city of Waxahachie which possesses a pretty amazing bicycle and lawn mower shop (The City Bike Shop, where they will beseech their god to bless you, even if you don't spend money); a genuine Chautauqua building; many, many beautiful homes (20% of all the Texas buildings in the National Register of Historic Places are in Waxahachie). And this, the courthouse of Ellis County.

As we approached the center of Waxahachie we spotted the clock tower and I exclaimed in my loudest bicycle voice, "Good lord! What was H. H. Richardson doing in this dismal, godforsaken state!" I quickly corrected my judgement error. This was not an H. H. Richardson building. It was designed by J. Reilly Gordon, a student of Richardson. Faithful to the style of the master it is!
